It’s safe to say that everybody was glad to see the back of 2020. And whilst the New Year hasn’t got off to quite the usual start, our team are well-rested, fed and watered from the Christmas break and we are all filled to the brim with hope for the year ahead.
Christmas Appeal
Thanks to the enormous genorosity of an anonymous donor, Elephant Family were able to have up to £20,000 of donations towards our Christmas Appeal matched.
The appeal aimed to raise funds to support Elephant Family’s work to bring about coexistence between Asia’s wildlife and people.
We asked our wonderful supporters to help us start 2021 on strong footing, and we are thrilled to share that they have indeed delivered with the total amount raised reaching an elephantine £62,965!
The birds are chirping, elephants trumpeting and tigers roaring their thanks to everyone who supported the appeal, and our entire team would like to echo this. We are enormously grateful for the support given to our conservation efforts after such a difficult year.
Striding into 2021
Towards the end of last year we finalised our new conservation strategy. Our focus has expanded from the Asian elephant, to encompassing the landscape it calls home and the abundance of other wildlife that shares it. This, combined with the incredible result of our Christmas Appeal has given our team and our conservation partners on the ground a huge boost to morale.
New partnerships
Throughout 2021 we will be forging new partnerships with conservation projects and organisations in India. This will help bolster our efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict and to conserve vital habitats to help boost biodiversity across the sub-continent. We very much look forward to sharing these exciting new partnerships with you.
CoExistence
Our teams are busy behind the scenes making preparations for the arrival of the magnificent CoExistence herd at London’s Royal Parks this summer.
The herd’s arrival will mark the beginning of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) on the 17th May which will negotiate a new global framework to safeguard all life on earth. CoExistence will raise vital funds to help put an end to human-wildlife conflict by protecting natural habitats and improving how humans interact with the natural world.
We encourage you to sign up to the newsletter to stay informed on all events and updates.
