We are delighted that Their Majesties The King and The Queen will formally continue as Joint Royal Presidents of Elephant Family. The news was confirmed by Buckingham Palace following a review of over 1,000 patronages of The late Queen, The former Prince of Wales, and The former Duchess of Cornwall. His Majesty The King will also formally continue as Royal Founding Patron of the British Asian Trust, Elephant Family is a part of the British Asian Trust, set up in 2007 to tackle widespread poverty, inequality and injustice in South Asia. The announcement marks the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation.
The Elephant Family was set up by Her Majesty The Queen’s late brother, Mark Shand, who dedicated the last 27 years of his life to saving the Asian elephant. Elephant Family works in partnership with home grown, in-country conservation experts on the ground to tackle the challenges facing Asia’s wildlife and the indigenous communities that live alongside them.
Chair of the British Asian Trust, Lord Jitesh Gadhia added, “It is a true privilege to retain Their Majesties The King and The Queen as Joint Royal Presidents of Elephant Family to continue our vital work honouring Mark Shand’s remarkable legacy. Their support and presence over the years has been crucial to Elephant Family’s success. They are wonderful champions for our community of conservationists, humanitarians and wildlife lovers around the world and we are very grateful for their continued involvement.”
