UK Tourists Fuel Endangered Baby Elephant smuggling in Thailand

Elephant Family has received disturbing reports that the illegal and brutal cross-border trade in endangered wild Asian elephants is taking place right now between Myanmar and Thailand. The elephants are captured from the wild and brutally ‘domesticated’ to supply the demand from tourist camps, which receive visits from the one million British tourists that head to Thailand every year. Conservation charity, Elephant Family is calling on the Thai government to change and enforce their laws and prevent this barbaric trade continuing. These reports coincide with an investigation by the Ecologist Film Unit – in association with Link TV and Elephant Family – and the launch of their documentary Baby Elephant Smuggling Exposed: How Thailand’s Tourist Industry is Driving a Brutal Trade in Baby Elephants which is available online at http://www.linktv.org/elephantsmuggling.
